kind of on-the-go.

I’m all about well-rounded meals, but let’s be honest: Sometimes we all need to grab something quick to eat while on-the-go. When time is of the essence, these moments call for some of my favorite go-to options, like smoothies and, you guessed it, food bars.

While what goes into my smoothies is in my control, choosing a food bar can be a little more difficult because *NEWS FLASH* they’re not all created equal. In fact, some of them are downright awful –– loaded with sugar and unhealthy additives, these bars are often no better than just snacking on a candy bar. This is one of those instances where I can’t stress it enough –– read your labels! Just because something looks healthy doesn’t mean it is. It’s called creative advertising and misleading packaging. Don’t let it fool you!

Of course, these instances make the moment that we do land on a food product worth considering oh-so-much-sweeter. And that’s what brings me to my love affair with KIND bars. But before I go off on a tangent, let me be clear: While these bars were sent to me by the totally cool people at KIND, I only review products that I believe in and would actually purchase (or already do), and/or use in my home.

Things I appreciate about all KIND bars: easy-to-read labels, recognizable ingredients (you can actually see the nuts, spices and dried fruits) and well-rounded nutrition facts (non GMO, gluten free, no sugar alcohols, low sodium, vegan options, and so forth). That being said, you can imagine I was fairly excited when I was recently given the opportunity to review two of their newest bar flavors, Dark Chocolate Chili Almond and Maple Glazed Pecan & Sea Salt. Snag a peek at the yummy stats …

These new bars are part of KIND’s Nuts & Spices line of bars which also includes Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt, Madagascar Vanilla Almond, Dark Chocolate Cinnamon Pecan and Cashew & Ginger Spice:

My review: I love the hint of spice that is included in the Dark Chocolate Chili Almond bar. I won’t lie –- I was a little nervous to try it at first, but the flavor combo made sense and the chocolate nicely balances the chili spice. I think this bar would be yummy crumbled on top of chocolate ice cream (I do this often with KIND bars. What?! It’s a tasty, crunchy topping!)

As for the Maple Glazed Pecan & Sea Salt, it was my favorite of the two. I am big on fall flavors (pumpkin, maple, apple, etc.), so I was in love with the taste of this bar. One bite made me feel like cuddly sweatshirts and cool breezes were just on the horizon. Oh, and it was YUMMY too.
