Hallux Rigidus FAQ, part 2

by workoutmommy on October 6, 2012

It has been 4 years this month since I had surgery for Hallux Rigidus and I still get many emails each week from readers who are going through the same thing.

My last Hallux Rigidus surgery update was in May 2010.

Everything else remains the same but I am happy to say that I can retract #7.   My foot is NO LONGER in pain!  YAY!!!   I really don’t remember when it crossed over to feeling normal again,  but I am just so happy that it is!

I’ve also come to realize how important it is to take care of your body.   When I was younger,  I would run 30-50 miles a week—on top of teaching fitness classes all day long.    At the time,  I didn’t think much of it since my body seemed to be able to handle it.    Now, however,  I have a lot of aches and pains and really feel that my body is breaking down due to all the abuse I put it through.     As they say,  hindsight is always 20/20.

I know I need to stretch and work on my mobility far more than I need to go out and run 6 miles.    This is something I struggle with constantly because my body craves that cardio endorphin high even though what it really needs  is a nice long yoga session!

Anyway,  back to the Hallux Rigidus.
My thoughts now are that I’m very happy I had it done.   It was caught early enough so I didn’t need any pins or fusion.    I now ONLY wear running/athletic shoes and my feet are very thankful!

If you are faced with a similar diagnosis,  good luck and I hope my posts can help you out!
